11 February 2023Fire Accident

On February 11, 2023, while navigating approx 2 mi / 4 km off Port Fishguard Harbour (Wales/Pembrokeshire County), the ferry suffered an engine room fire accident. The ship was operating a regularly scheduled crossing on the Wales-Ireland route Fishguard-Rosslare, and carrying a total of 88 passengers plus 59 crew.

The ship's crew managed quickly to extinguish the fire, but it soon temporarily reignited and was dealt with again. HMCG (British Coast Guard) coastguard rescue teams from Fishguard and Moylegrove were called as a precaution.

To assist the vessel, HMCG dispatched three RNLI boats, a rescue helicopter, an air ambulance. When the ship berthed at Fishguard Harbour, to the dock were sent teams from Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Dyfed-Powys Police, and Mid and West Wales Fire & Rescue Service. Firefighters started spraying the funnel/smokestack to cool it down.

All passengers and crew were disembarked safely, and no injuries or pollution were reported. The current voyage was delayed by ~30 minutes, and the ferry was temporarily removed from service for damage assessment and investigation.
