Review of MS Maud deck 9 (Observation-Sundeck-Pools)

The fore-located Explorer Bar Lounge is 2-decks high bar lounge (Explorer Bar is on Deck 9 / lounge's upper level) and the cruise ship's main and largest lounge venue. This is an indoor observation lounge with comfortable furniture (plush sofas and chairs) and floor-ceiling windows offering 180-degree scenery views on both levels. The lounge has also an Internet Cafe (with PC stations) and a small dance floor (on the lower level). The Internet Cafe is for personal laptops only (cables are not provided). Wi-Fi onboard is free, with shipwide coverage.

Explorer Bar is located portside /aft of the Atrium) and provides great views of the Atrium's levels below, as well as from the cruise ship's bow.

The TRIM Fitness is a small outdoor gym with modern equipment - treadmills, exercise bikes, free weights.

The boat's indoor Gym & Wellness complex is located forward-starboard, with floor-ceiling windows and 2 separate Saunas (for men/women), locker rooms, showers, Gym Room.

While this Hurtigruten vessel has no swimming pool, it has 2 oversized whirlpools (outdoor hot tubs).

Outdoor Observation Deck is an aft open-air space that has the best vantage points for guests to enjoy the Norwegian Arctic scenery views along the MS Maud itinerary route. The area has plenty of deckchairs around the ship’s funnel and a helipad (helicopter landing platform used in cases of emergencies). There is a sheltered seating area (with wooden chairs and tables) located aft of the Atrium and an Outdoor BBQ (barbeque) area.

The outdoor Sundeck is also the place for the Hurtigruten Maud ship’s special ceremony called “Arctic Circle baptism”, which includes a Neptune-costumed crewmember, ice-cold seawater, and a free Vodka shot - for warming up after the freezing experience.
