MV Viking Star (built 2015) is the first in a series of all ten Viking Ocean Cruises ships – together with the Viking Sea (2016), Viking Sky (2017), Viking Sun (2017), Viking Orion (2018), Viking Jupiter (2019), Viking TBA (2021), Viking TBA (2022) and Viking TBA (2023). This vessel design was specifically developed for Viking Ocean's new concept of "small ship travel" vacation that combines the "excursions-inclusive river cruising" experience with a new, "affordable luxury" cruise vacation product.
Viking Star cruise ship deck plan has a total of 465 staterooms for 928 passengers served by 470 crew/staff, 9 passenger decks, 2 swimming pools (one infinity pool, one with retractable roof), 2 Jacuzzi hot tubs, 6 elevators (2 of which are panoramic /with glass walls). This is an adults-only ship (min age requirement 16 yo) without dedicated kids facilities or programs.
On all Viking Star decks with cabins there is a launderette (free of charge passenger-use laundromats). These are self-service laundry rooms equipped with ironing boards, washers and dryers. Detergent is provided (also complimentary).

The Viking Ocean’s Star ship and her sisters are new generation cruise liners implementing some of the industry’s top maritime technologies. Among those are the energy-saving hybrid engines (diesel generators and gas turbines), optimized hulls and bulbous bows for max fuel efficiency. All Viking Cruises ocean ships as design also feature the common for the line’s longships solar panels (installed on the magradome pool cover) additionally minimizing the vessel’s exhaust pollution.
Like its sister-ships, Viking Star offers an intimate boutique hotel-like feel with its signature decor (Scandinavian-themed), luxury fabrics, spacious lounges with classy leather furniture, gourmet cuisine offers, unique art collection (incl display dedicated on Viking cruise line’s history). Also like all Viking Ocean ships, Star offers longer cruise itineraries (with few seadays), plenty of daily scheduled organized onboard activities, several overnight port stays, a nice selection of tours (offered complimentary in each port of call). Unlike most new cruise ships, none of the Viking Ocean liners has gambling casino (lounge and bar).
