In the presence of Michael Thamm, Costa Group CEO, and Felix Eichhorn, AIDA president, the vessel was handed over to the line by president and CEO Shunichi Miyanaga, and president and CEO Commercial Aviation & Transportation Systems MHI, Yoichi Kujirai.
AIDAprima is the 11th ship in the AIDA fleet. She will be named on May 7 by 13-year-old actress Emma Schweiger as the climax of 827th Hamburg Port Anniversary.
'AIDAprima is the first ship of an entirely new AIDA product family. With creativity and great innovativeness, our team has managed to implement our high standards in terms of product quality and environmental friendliness in an exemplary and impressive way,' Thamm said. 'We are extremely pleased with the successful design of the ship, and look forward to welcoming guests aboard her, who are going to be equally impressed.'
'With our new flagship and the three newbuilds to follow, the company will continue to provide important growth impulses for the German cruise market.'
Eichhorn added that AIDA was charting new territory by becoming the first cruise line to offer year-round sailings from Germany and that would help the company reach new customers.
From April 30, 2016 Hamburg will be AIDAprima's homeport for 7-day round-trips to top cities in Western Europe. April 25-29, the ship will offer a short Hamburg-Southampton cruise.
