With expectations high for 2016 summer's 750-passenger Seven Seas Explorer, NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) announced it will build a new Explorer-class sister Regent luxury ship for 2020 in the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.

The new vessel will have many of the Explorer's high-end features and amenities, including the 3,875-square-foot Regent Suite - a 2-bedroom suite with an in-suite spa, private vista garden, 2 and a half baths with stone and marble detail, and 2 separate wraparound balconies. The line is billing Seven Seas Explorer as the "most luxurious cruise ship ever."

Jason Montague, president and chief operating officer Regent Seven Seas Cruises, said:

"The extraordinary demand generated by Seven Seas Explorer, including record-breaking booking volumes, reinforced our decision to expand our fleet with an additional ship that mirrors the same incredibly high standards of luxury."

The two new Regent Seven Seas ships join smaller fleetmates Seven Seas Navigator, Mariner and Voyager. Those vessels are undergoing a $125M upgrade, with refurbishments in 2016 and 2017.
