The HAL ship is the first of 5 to make debut calls to the port city this season.
To mark the ocassion ms Zuiderdam was given a water fountain escort by a port tug up Kiel Fiord to her berth at Ostseekai Terminal.
At an onboard reception, Mayor Peter Todeskino welcomed ship‘s captain to the city (capital of the Schleswig-Holstein state), and presented him with a traditional maiden visit plaque. Todeskino said:
'We are very happy that after welcoming HAL ships for eight years in a row Kiel now occupies a firm place in Holland America Line’s route planning. Apart from Zuiderdam's five calls scheduled this season, newest ship Koningsdam is also expected in Kiel.'
