Hurricane Lester is reaching Hawaiian Islands, and Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America departed Honolulu, Oahu, 3 hours early, at 4 p.m. yesterday, to avoid the path of the storm.

The line contacted its guests and asked them to arrive early in order to speed up the embarkation process, with check-in starting at 9:30 a.m.

In a statement NCL said:

"The safety and security of our guests is our number one priority. We are closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Lester, which is forecast to pass near the Hawaiian Islands this weekend."

This followed changes to ship's itinerary Sept 2 due to Hurricane Madeline, when Pride of America extended its time in Kauai by 4 hours, departing at 6:00 p.m. instead of 2:00 p.m.

Currently at Category 2, Hurricane Lester features maximum sustained winds of 100 mi/h and Hurricane Watch is in effect for Maui County including Kahoolawe, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, and Oahu.
