A fire onboard Norwegian Joy, currently under construction in building dock II of Meyer Werft, was extinguished with no injuries. According to the yard, ship's delivery schedule will not be impacted.
Meyer Werft firefighters put out the blaze, which occurred on Wednesday, September 28. Employees left the affected areas. Work resumed following temporary suspension.
Information about cause of the fire and extent of damage were not available immediately. The damage was estimated at about €50,000 by unconfirmed news reports.
Extensive alarm and security systems are installed during construction and the yard could respond quickly, Martin Eggengoor, Meyer security manager, said.
Norwegian Cruise Line is constructing Norwegian Joy for the China cruise market. Delivery is scheduled for 2017 spring.
