Costa Serena celebrated today her maiden call at Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal while at the same time the Italian cruise line confirmed that in 2016 Costa Fortuna would be added to its China-based fleet.
The launch event of the Serena was attended by President of Costa Asia, Buhdy Bok, guests from the local government, media and trade partners. The arrival of Costa Serena increases capacity in the region by 74%, satisfying the fast growing demand of Chinese market.
Michael Thamm, CEO of Costa Crociere S.p.A., said that the addition of Costa Serena reinforced Costa Cruises’ leadership position in China’s cruise market, and after nine years of successful operations, support and encouragement from the Chinese government, the line would continue to expand its offerings in China.
Buhdy Bok stated that Costa Serena brought a taste of Italy tailored to maximize the luxury for their Chinese guests. He added the success in China had come from expanding on the enjoyment of passengers on board.
Today's celebration followed the official announcement on the addition of the new Costa ship to the China-based fleet by April 2016. Costa Fortuna is the fourth ship of Costa Cruises' investment plan in China, further increasing capacity by another 38%.
