Luxury cruise line Crystal announced that they will expand the expedition yacht program of the company from one ship to 3 new ships, with deliveries in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The debut of the first expedition yacht named Crystal Endeavor was pushed back to 2019. The 25,000-ton expedition yachts will carry 200 passengers. Crystal will be rebranding its current Crystal Yacht Cruises as Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises.

The purpose-built polar class vessels will navigate “first year ice” and they will feature submarines, helicopters and remote operated vehicles. The expedition ships will sail in the Arctic and follow the route of migrating whales travelling along the coast of the Americas and Europe to Antarctica during winter. Crystal’s move to luxury expedition cruising follows research over three years which found that nearly 70% of Crystal passengers are interested in expedition cruising.

Crystal have also announced that the delivery of their new ocean cruise ships have been delayed until 2022. In the meantime, Crystal will be focusing their attention on the existing Crystal Serenity and Symphony which will see huge enhancements in 2017 and 2018, respectively. The main changes will consist of full open seating dining on both ships and more suites.

It will be an important year for Crystal in 2022, as they welcome the first Crystal Exclusive-class ocean ship that “will set a new standard of luxury travel” with signature features and guest amenities. It will boast Crystal Residences which will allow travelers to call a Crystal ship a home. The privately owned apartments will range in size from 600 to 10,000+ square feet, in which residents will have access to private amenities, dining and a wide range of other services.
