Yesterday (May 01) MSC Cruises marked the maiden call of MSC Splendida in Hamburg. Splendida is the biggest cruise ship to be homeported in the German city.

MSC Splendida will homeport for the summer season in Hamburg, making 13 voyages to northern Europe, calling in the Norwegian fjords, Iceland and the British Isles.

The arrival of the MSC ship in Hamburg was marked by a ceremony of crest exchange between ship’s Captain, Giuseppe Maresca, and Jörg Pollman, the Harbourmaster of Hamburg, with Hamburg Senator, Frank Horch, MSC Executive Chairman, Pierfrancesco Vago, and international media in attendance.

Addressing the event, Pierfrancesco Vago said that homeporting MSC Splendida, one of their largest and finest ships, there was a natural progression, "following four years of increasing investment in Hamburg".

Vago added that MSC Cruises had already brought 350,000 travelers through Hamburg. This summer MSC Splendida would make 13 sailings and add more than 100,000 guests to that total.
