Travel editors at US News & World Report created a guide to the best cruise lines for vacationers with different needs.

In the category of the most budget-friendly cruise, for instance, US News & Report gave top spot to Celebrity Cruises. The brand ranks tops in the category of best cruise line for Mediterranean.

Disney Cruise Line was another big winner, taking the title of best cruise line for families and best itinerary in the Caribbean. Crystal Cruises was named best cruise line for luxury and couples.

To compile the ranking, editors looked at cruise ship quality, reputation among travelers, health assessments from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, price, class and itinerary offerings. Overall, 15 cruise lines were ranked across six categories.

It's estimated that 24 million people will have taken to the high seas in 2016, with interest expected to rise next year.

US News & World Report isn't the only prognosticator to weigh in on the best cruises on the high seas Recently, editors at Cruise Critic named Carnival Cruise Line the best brand when it comes to value for money and Princess Cruises best for romance. Where they are agreed is Disney Cruise Line, which also took the title of best for families at Cruise Critic.
