Princess Cruises' Emerald Princess was welcomed by emerald green flames as the ship sailed into Sydney earlier this week.

The spectacular arrival was the city's first maiden cruise ship visit of the summer season down under. Emerald Princess, the largest of five Princess ships to be based in Australian waters in 2016 to 2017, is operating 13 roundtrip cruises to New Zealand, the South Pacific and Tasmania.

Other ships basing in Sydney for the first time this year include Holland America's Maasdam, Royal Caribbean's Ovation of the Seas, and for two sailings, Seabourn's yet-to-debut Seabourn Encore.

Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Solstice also arrived in Sydney Monday after a scheduled dry dock in Singapore, where it received a few upgrades such as the Sushi on Five restaurant, new cabanas at The Lawn Club and an outdoor movie screen for the line's Taste of Film experience.
