Viking Sun - the 4th vessel in a series of 6 newbuilds for Viking Ocean Cruises, was floated out on December 15, 2016, at Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard. Interior outfitting of the ship will now begin. The ship is scheduled for delivery in autumn 2017.

The cremony was attended by Viking chairman Torstein Hagen and director of the Ancona yard, Giovanni Stecconi. The launch was marked by coin ceremony, and a silver dollar was welded into ship's top deck. Yi Lou, vp of China Merchant Bank Financial Leasing served as godmother for the event.

Like her sisters, Viking Sun features gross tonnage of 47,800 and 465 cabins for 930 passengers, with total capacity for over 1,400 people, including crew. The interior design team consists of Los Angeles-based Rottet Studios and London-based SMC Design.

Viking Star, the first ship in the series, was delivered by Fincantieri's Marghera in spring 2015, while Viking Sea was handed over in March this year by Ancona. Viking Sky, which is also under construction at Ancona yard, is due for delivery early 2017.
