US Coast Guard (USCG) has evacuated an ill passenger from Cunard Queen Mary II cruise ship, 180 miles south of Nantucket island (Massachusetts).

Officials announced the ill traveler was a 39-year-old man with heart and kidney failure symptoms. The man was taken from the ship on Saturday afternoon (May 09) by helicopter.

An MH-60 Jayhawk rescue crew based in Cape Cod was dispatched after the doctor on board RMS Queen Mary II consulted with a USCG flight surgeon. The 992-foot vessel headed towards Nantucket in order to shorten the distance for evacuation.

Nicole Cook, Coast Guard Petty Officer, is the operations unit coordinator at Boston's First Coast Guard District. She said a nurse from the ship had accompanied the patient to a hospital in Boston.
