Celebrity Summit Cancels Sailing Due to Propulsion Issue

British Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) announced yesterday that Celebrity Summit had cancelled its April 9 visit to Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility at Frederiksted.

VIPA’s Acting Executive Director David Mapp, quoting ship’s agent, revealed that Celebrity Summit was scheduled for emergency repairs (suffering from a reduction in its propulsion) on the day it was scheduled to be on Saint Croix USVI.

The cancellation comes one week after Seatrade, the cruise industry’s most important gathering, where government officials said positive meetings with cruise line executives took place.

The Celebrity Summit’s cancellation is the second for Saint Croix this year. On January 7, the Port Authority announced that Holland America had cancelled the January 10 visit of ms Rotterdam to the island. No details were given for the ship’s cancellation.
