Carnival Sensation Returns to Miami After Cruise Passenger Becomes Sick

A Carnival cruise ship was forced to return to Miami early Sunday morning after a traveller became sick and had to be rushed to hospital.

Carnival Sensation was around 90 miles southeast of Miami after midnight when crew members notified Coast Guard of a passenger who needed medical attention. Coast Guard officials called Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the ship started its return.

However, sea conditions were too rough for the ship to make it back to Port Miami, so it arrived at Government Cut and met rescue crews there. The passenger, who is from Chile, was taken by boat with two family members to Port Miami where they were eventually taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

No word on the passenger’s condition at this time and the ship returned on its scheduled trip to Jamaica.

Carnival Cruise Line issued a statement saying that the delay will cause another trip later this week to Grand Cayman to be canceled, providing those who bought tickets with a credit toward a future trip.
