The largest cruise ship in Asia, Norwegian Joy, is custom-built for the Chinese market.

Launched in 2017, Norwegian Joy (ordered as "Norwegian Bliss") is the 2nd of the three Breakaway Plus-class newest and biggest NCL ships – together with Norwegian Escape (2015) and Norwegian Bliss (2018). This class ships are approx 7,000 GT larger in comparison to the company's second-biggest vessel Norwegian Epic. The NCL Joy ship cost US $920 million to build.

Joy completed her maiden voyage and returned to Qingdao in east China. The ship was christened in Shanghai China on June 27, 2017. The lavish naming ceremony was held onboard and featured a live performance by the vessel's godfather Wang Leehom.
