Port of Leixoes, Portugal, recorded a 29% increase in cruise ship visits and a 64% rise in cruise passenger numbers in the first 6 months of 2017, compared to 2016.
Between January and June this year, the port welcomed a total of 45 cruise vessels, including 6 inaugural visitors as well as 40,917 cruise travellers from all around the world.
Many of these came from Germany, the UK and the US. Japanese nationals were the 4th-largest group of cruisers for the first time.
Forecasts showed that 2017 will be the busiest season to date for Leixoes port, which will handle another 60 cruise ship calls and at least 59,000 more cruise passengers before the end of the year, beating the port’s record cruise year 2015.
