Disney to Buy a Second Caribbean Island?

   August 8, 2017 ,   Cruise Industry

Disney Cruise Line is reportedly looking for a 2nd Caribbean island for its new ships.

In recent years Disney has been expanding non-Florida itineraries, adding a number of Mediterranean and West Coast tours.

The cruise line already owns a private island, Castaway Cay. It is designed for cruise ships with up to 875 staterooms and can get crowded when larger ships are there. The new isle is probably expected to help alleviate some of the strain via permitting Castaway Cay more downtime between vessels.

Disney Cruise Line was looking at a 2nd island in 2016, Egg Island in the Bahamas. However, those plans fell through following environmental studies which showed that the island’s ecosystem would not be able to sustain the development.

Disney’s three newbuilds are scheduled to come in-service one per year between 2021 and 2023.
