Almost 100 cruise passengers on Sun Princess have suffered norovirus symptoms during a 10-day South Pacific voyage.

A spokesperson for parent company Carnival Corporation announced that the highly contagious virus had been prevalent in the communities of New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

The first case was reported on the first day of the cruise, which, according to the company, suggesting the illness had been introduced during embarkation in Brisbane.

The Princess Cruises ship ended its sailing on Thursday, August 10, when it docked back in Brisbane. Of the 2000 passengers, 91 have been infected.

This is the 4th reported outbreak of norovirus onboard Sun Princess this year.
