The two big cruise lines that operate from Galveston expect to be back on their regular schedule by the weekend.

On Wednesday Carnival said the 2,974-guest Carnival Freedom would depart Harvey-lashed Texas port on Saturday, September 2, as scheduled on a 7-night cruise to Western Caribbean.

The two other Galveston-based Carnival ships - 3,690-passenger Breeze and 2,974-passenger Valor - will resume the normal schedules from the port on Sunday and Monday, respectively.

The other major cruise line with a ship based in Galveston TX, Royal Caribbean, also announced it was gearing up for return to normal operations during the weekend. The single Galveston-based ship of the line, the 3,634-guest Liberty of the Seas, is expected to arrive back in the port just in time for her scheduled Sunday departure.

Port of Galveston had been closed since Hurricane Harvey began pummeling the coast of Texas last Friday, forcing the cruise lines to cancel all of this week's sailings.
