VIDEO: Hamburg Cruise Days Boast Record Number of Ships

The 6th Hamburg Cruise Days is getting underway today, September 8, with a record 11 cruise liners and hundreds of thousands of tourists from all around the world in Hamburg.

In 2016, new records were broken with a total of 171 ship arrivals and more than 710,000 passengers amid rising cruise shipping  popularity.

Cruise Gate Hamburg expects about 200 ships with approx 800,000 passengers to visit during 2017 season. 9 cruise liners and 2 river ships are expected at this year’s Cruise Days.

Hundreds of thousands of spectators will be watching the parade of ships with a record 6 large ships and 24 accompanying vessels on September 9.

Blue Port Hamburg light show by Michael Batz will plunge the harbour into shades of blue against a backdrop of stunning landmarks, Elbe Bridges, Övelgonne as well as terminals, quays, buildings, cranes, pontoons, ships and vehicles. Blue Port Hamburg, held for the first time in 2008, started on September 1 with a “Light Up” ceremony.
