Key West reopens for cruise arrivals, with the first call occurring this Sunday, September 23, with a visit from Royal Caribbean's Empress of the Seas.

Port Key West has been closed to cruise ships since Irma struck Florida Keys on September 9. It will be the first port to reopen among the destinations slammed by the hurricane.

The ports in St Croix and San Juan remained closed in the wake of Hurricane Maria, that passed over these areas this week. St Thomas USVI and St Maarten, wrecked by Irma, are also closed to cruise ships.

Key West has set an October 20 target date to reopen for general tourism.
