Ferry Runs Aground in the Philippines: 87 Passengers Injured

Passenger ro-ro ship Maria Matilde has run aground on rocks on Tuesday, September 26, on the coast in Calatrava City, northern Tablas Island, Tablas Strait, Philippines.

The ferry was en route to Romblon Island from Odiongan port, southeast Tablas, carrying 2151 passengers and vehicles onboard. 87 passengers were reported injured, requiring medical assistance and taken to nearby hospitals.

According to officials, grounding was caused by restricted visibility due to heavy rain, but passengers' statements contradict the official version.
