The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has suspended a search for a reported overboard cruise ship crew member near Juneau.

The Norwegian Sun crew member has been identified as Jonas Fillipe de Miranda Santiago, 27-year-old, of Brazil (no hometown has been given). De Miranda Santiago went missing Thursday (July 2) south of Douglas Island.

Lt. Colin Boyle said footage from the security system of the NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) ship had shown "the crew member jumping overboard without a life jacket at 4:16 a.m. Thursday". Search operation was suspended the same day, shortly after 10 p.m.

In a statement issued Friday evening (Jul 3), Norwegian Cruise Line said they were saddened to learn about the crew member aboard the Norwegian Sun jumping overboard and added the line was providing support to the fellow crew members.
