Around 20 luxury cruise ships are expected to dock at the ports in South Africa over the summer and autumn seasons.

The vessels, operated by 17 international lines, will dock at various ports around the country and among them will be the familiar Queen Mary 2, Queen ElizabethMSC Sinfonia, and even RMS St Helena.

In October, MSC Sinfonia became the first international cruise ship to arrive at Port of Durban for 2017 and 2018 cruise season, with around 2300 mainly South African and European passengers onboard ending a 23-day sailing from Venice.

The “floating college campus” of Semester at Sea, World Odyssey, made its return to Cape Town in early November. However, it is Phoenix Reisen’s Albatros that is regarded as the first true cruise vessel of the season to visit country's other ports.

Cape Town Tourism revealed that could potentially lead to a tourism boost for the economy of South Africa.
