MSC features the most capacity of the cruise market in the Mediterranean, while AIDA Cruises is market leader in the Canary Islands and Northern Europe.
MSC Cruises dominates the European market in 2015 with an estimated guest capacity of 1.1 million. Second largest is Costa Cruises with an estimated capacity of 912,500 passengers, trailed by AIDA - 612,000, and followed by Royal Caribbean International with 422,400; NCL Norwegian - 314,200; P&O - 276,000; TUI Cruises - 241,500; and Celebrity - 241,500.
Among the recent changes, Royal Caribbean has reduced Mediterranean deployment from 526,000 guests in 2012 to 301,000 passengers this year, while maintaining 90,000 in Northern Europe. NCL has largely maintained capacity since 2013.
With Costa Crociere moving more cruise ships to Asia, MSC is supposed to maintain and even increase dominance in Europe.
