Ferry Turns Around Due to Ice in Harbor

A ferry ship was forced to turn around Monday morning, January 1, due to icy conditions in Hyannis Harbor.

Hy-Line voyage from Hyannis to Nantucket at 6:10 am was aborted due to the ice. Area's temperatures were in the single-digits, with highs expected to peak close to 14 degrees later in the day.

The service of Steamship Authority (high-speed ferry Iyanough) was scheduled to continue until January 4, but according to officials all of the trips are being canceled. The Iyanough is due to return to service on April 2.

Steamship Authority officials announced other ferries between Hyannis-Nantucket are operating as scheduled.
