Crystal Cruises announced a significant brand expansion. The big news is the ordering of 3 luxury polar ice-class ships from Lloyd Werft. The new 1,050-feet vessels (the first buil for the line in 12 years) will be able to accommodate up to 1,000 passengers and each will weigh more than 100,000 tons. Crystal has also promised an amazing one-to-one passenger-to-crew ratio. Delivery of the first ship is expected in the end of 2018.

The announcement was made during the 25th anniversary Chairman's voyage onboard Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony while docked in Leknes, Norway. Other news included river cruises, a luxury yacht and a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Crystal Yacht Cruises is scheduled to debut with the 3,300-ton Crystal Esprit Yacht, featuring accommodation for just 62 passengers and a 2-person submarine. Reservations open exclusively to members of Crystal Society beginning in August 2015. Sailings will start this December.

The luxury line also announced a new division - Crystal River Cruises, debuting in 2017, as well as a private aircraft, Crystal Air, for around-the-world journeys. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which commonly seats 300, will fly only 60 passengers in business class, fully reclining seats.

In March 2015, Crystal was bought by Genting Hong Kong, the largest cruise line in Asia, and talks of a 3rd ship began circulating.
