Hurtigruten's newest ship to be named via competition

By ,   July 22, 2015 ,   Cruise Industry

In 2016, the fleet of Hurtigruten will be joined by a new expedition ship - one of the world's most flexible. She will embark on exciting exploration voyages, but needs a name before she starts her journey.

The ship has been temporarily named 'MS Norway Explorer'. She will initially operate on the coastal route of Hurtigruten, taking the place of ms Midnatsol, which is scheduled to head south to Antarctica for the season.

The name must begin with 'MS' (for 'motor vessel') and has to be a Norwegian word / words or an international word of Norwegian origin (such as "fjord"). Other Hurtigruten ships are named after key figures in Norwegian history, natural phenomena or places along line's route.

Entrants can upload suggestion to Hurtigruten's FB page (https://www.facebook.com/UKHurtigruten) through August 10, 2015.

The winner will be the special guest of the Captain during a cruise on the new ship in 2016, as she travels along the coast of Norway. The prize will include a cabin on full-board basis plus shore excursions.
