Ferry Passenger Found Dead in Columbia River

A Coast Guard spokesperson confirmed that a woman had died after falling off a ferry into Columbia River Friday night, April 6.

According to the spokesperson Coast Guard crews had pulled the body from the river after it had been spotted from the ferry. The identity of the woman was not released to the public. Few details were available about the time leading to the death.

The Coast Guard spokesperson said that before she died the woman had been aboard the ferry Oscar B. that sails between Westport, Ore. and Puget Island, Washington. Coast Guard crews had responded at around 9:30 p.m.

The body of the woman was turned over to Ocean View Mortuary, Astoria and Clatsop County law enforcement was currently investigating the matter.
