Container Ship Collides with Ferry in Hainan Strait

Container ship Hong Yang has collided with Jian Feng Ling ferry ship in Hainan Strait at 03:50 Beijing time on April 5.

From the description of the accident it seems like the container ship struck the starboard of the ferry, inflicting serious damages. The hull was dented and breached, life rafts damaged or torn off, and some trucks and cars on vessel's cargo deck damaged and (or) destroyed.

A number of passengers were slightly injured. The container vessel sustained fore section damages. No containers loss has been mentioned.

The Hong Yang container ship was enroute to Haikou, Hainan. The ship left Haikou on Sunday, April 8, bound for Qinzhou.

The Jian Feng Ling ferry ship was taken to Hainan after the collision, and later moved to Zhanjiang.
