Shanghai, the destination of the 10th China Cruise Shipping event in 2015, plans to expand SWICT (Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal) to accommodate increasing cruise demand.
Another two berths are currently under construction, which means a total of four berths. Two spaces are reserved for Oasis-class ships, while the remaining couple of berths will handle megaships of up to 150,000 tons.
The expanded site will accommodate 3.6 million annual cruiser flow. The terminal is planned to be operational by 2017.
Last year, SWICT received 216 visits and more than 1 million passengers. This year it plans to receive 1.8 million passengers and 284 calls which is a new record.
Berth earnings in 2014 were 6 times the projected, making Shanghai the only profitable homeport in China.
The 10th edition of China Cruise Shipping & International Expo is Asia/Pacific's No.1 cruise event. This special show takes place October 13-15 in Shanghai.
