VARD to Design and Build New Ship for Hapag-Lloyd

Vard Holdings Ltd announced it had secured a new contract for the design and building of a luxury expedition cruise ship for German cruise line Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

The new expedition ship will join the HANSEATIC series of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, along with the two ships that VARD already has under construction for the cruise company.

Developed by VARD via cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd, the ships are specially designed for voyages in polar regions in Arctic-Antarctica, and operations in warm water destinations like the Amazon.

The new luxury expedition cruise ship will be approx 16,000 GT, around 139 meters long and 22 meters wide. The ship has 7 passenger decks, and accommodation for 230 passengers in a total of 120 cabins and suites. Similar to its sister ships, the newbuild will be equipped with high standard of facilities. HANSEATIC series boasts a water sports marina, as well as modern spa and fitness areas.

The new vessel is scheduled for delivery from Vard Langsten, Norway in 2021 Q2. Its hull will be built by VARD in Tulcea Romania.
