Crew Member Goes Overboard from Holland America Ship

A crew member is missing from a Holland America cruise ship in Alaska.

The Coast Guard searched via helicopter in Sitka Sound for a man reported overboard from ms Amsterdam.

The 35-year-old man was last seen on the vessel at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2. He didn't show up for work shift and another crewman alerted the captain at about 7:45 p.m.

MS Amsterdam was turned around but the ship continued sailing south to Victoria BC.

The Coast Guard was notified of the missing man by ship officials at 9:00 p.m. The helicopter crew started searching off Biorka Island at 1:00 a.m. on Friday, August 3.

According to a statement, the Coast Guard suspended search Friday afternoon. USCG reported wind in the area at 45 mph, heavy fog and waves to 10 feet.
