Princess Cruises has raised the service charge added automatically to guests' shipboard accounts.

Passengers will be able to pre-pay their gratuities at the current rate until October 15. Beginning January 2016, guests staying in interior, oceanview and balcony staterooms will pay US$12.95 per person per day (up from US$11.50). Those in suites and mini-suites will be charged US$13.95 (up from US$12). All charges include children.

The news came days after Holland America Line (HAL) increased its tips and follows the trend set by other major cruise lines, such as Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Norwegian (NCL) this year.
