Guests on board Royal Caribbean's ship got at least one extra cruise day due to heavy fog in the Tampa area. It left all travelers scheduled to depart on the next voyage stuck scrambling to discover overnight accommodations.
The Director of global corporate communications for RCI Cynthia Martinez said Brilliance of the Seas had been scheduled to arrive in Tampa the morning of Monday, February 23. However, due to continuous dense fog, the ship was still out at sea awaiting permission to travel up the channel.
It’s still unclear when the vessel will be able to dock. Boarding for the next voyage has been delayed until further notice. The total impact to the itinerary is still unknown.
Martinez added that was not the news their guests had wanted to hear, and the line shared in their disappointment. There were many things they could control, but Mother Nature was not one of them. Passengers on both sailings would receive onboard credit for the depressing inconvenience.
Among the passengers on board Brilliance of the Seas still stuck at sea are several fans of Ohio State University that are part of Buckeye Cruise for Cancer, including the coach Urban Meyer.
Fogs in Tampa area are not uncommon during late winter and spring.
