Australia already boasts another new destination for cruising: World Heritage-listed - Fraser Island. The largest sand island in the world, located off the southern coast of Queensland.
P&O Cruises announced it will make two calls to the port in 2016, with Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden - the latest additions to the fleet calling on April 3 and December 12, respectively.
Fraser Island, one of 15 regional destinations in Australia pioneered by P&O in recent years, is part of the line's soon to be released cruise program for its five-ship fleet in 2016.
The first two Fraser Island cruises will be on Aria's roundtrip itinerary from Brisbane in April and on Eden's roundtrip cruise from Sydney in December. Both cruises are being conducted in conjunction with Kingfisher Bay Resort, which offers a eco-friendly 4WD tours of the island along its beaches and 1500km of tracks.
Queensland Minister for Tourism Kate Jones welcomed the announcement and said it was great to see cruising expand to another part of the state, following recent announcements of Mooloolaba, Hamilton Island and Gladstone ports.
