A Caribbean newspaper reports that Carnival Cruise Lines' Costa Fortuna with over 4,000 passengers and crew was stuck in Road Harbour on Tortola Island (BVI), after the ship had arrived on the early morning of February 22, Sunday.
The Fortuna was scheduled at around 6:00 p.m. The port authority says the ship had developed an unspecified "technical problem" while anchoring in the harbor.
A "technical problem" is the code for a mechanical issue with ship's propulsion systems and engines. Engineers flew to Tortola port to assess the vessel for repairs. Passengers had to be ferried into port.
Carnival Corp. has not issued its official statement.
AIS systems show the cruise ship was in St. John's Antigua yesterday. Earlier this week Costa Fortuna sailed to St. Kitts and Philipsburg.
