Veendam Hit with Gastrointestinal Illness

   December 27, 2015 ,   Accidents

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) stated that 57 out of 1429 passengers (4%) and 10 of 588 crew members (1.7%) had been reported ill with gastrointestinal illness (GI) aboard ms Veendam, operated by Holland America Line (HAL).

The CDC has to figure out the type of outbreak involved. Probably, it's norovirus, as was the case in the last eleven gastrointestinal illness cruise ship outbreaks in 2015.

A CDC environmental health officer is boarding the cruise ship today (December 27) at the end of the voyage in San Diego, CA. The Veendam had her last norovirus outbreak in February 2014.
