Gough Island (aka Goncalo Alvares) is a volcanic island located in the South Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the the British Overseas Territories - the dependency of "Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha". Saint Helena is the UK's second-oldest dependency (overseas territory) after Bermuda.
The island is uninhabited except for the weather station's personnel (by the South African National Antarctic Programme) which is there since 1956. The island is one of the world's most remote places with constant human presence.
Gough Island is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with the Inaccessible Island.
