Huelva is a port city in southwestern Spain. It is located in the autonomous Andalusia region *along the Gulf of Cadiz coast) and at the confluence of the rivers Odiel and Tinto. The city has population around 150,000 and covers a total area of approx 149 km2 (58 mi2). Huelva is home to the oldest football club in Spain, Recreativo de Huelva.

A picturesque town between Guadiana and Guadalquivir rivers, Huelva is on the estuary of River Odiel, as well as on the road from the mouth of Guadiana to Merida.

Huelva port has two sectors: inner port (located in the city) and outer port (the major one, also used by cruise vessels and some ferries).

  • Inner Port has 1 wharf and was created in 1972. East Wharf replaced the old, low-quality harbor facilities (constructed between 1900-1910). Currently, it is the wharf that is used for smaller vessel traffic, such as tourist boats.
  • Outer Port has 6 wharves and was constructed in 1965. It is located to the south of River Tinto. Port Huelva also serves the ferry ship Volcan del Teide (operated by Naviera Armas). The ship serves passenger traffic between Huelva, Arrecife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on a weekly scheduled basis.

Major attractions popular for tourism travel in Huelva province are the Columbus sites (Huelva City, Palos de la Frontera, Moguer, Rabida Monastery. The city is famous for its football club (Spain's oldest) - Recreativo de Huelva.

In 2021, Port Huelva started several infrastructure projects, the largest of which is the new Marina Isla Canela (leisure complex with a boats-yachts-serving facility/harbor at Levante Wharf). The entire space between the cruise port and the city was also remodeled with green areas, leisure and business venues (travel services, restaurants and shops, sports activity zones). Ría de Huelva's harbor marshes (Huelva City's shores and islands) were also restored.

Since 2021, the Port also provides LNG bunkering/fueling - both TTS (truck-to-ship/via tank trucks) and STS (ship-to-ship/via barges). Up to 46% discounts on port taxes and services are offered to cruise companies operating LNG-powered ships.

Huelva cruise terminal
