Isla San Jose is an island located in the Gulf of California, off the Baja California peninsula east coast. The isle issemi-arid. It lies 60 km north of La Paz city, and belongs politically to the state of Baja California Sur, Mexico. Isla San Jose is part of La Paz municipality. Its surface area is 183 sq.km (71 sq.miles), the 6th-largest island in Mexico. In English, Isla San Jose is also referred to as "San Jose Island", though there are other isles bearing this name. It is the type locality for yellow-footed gull and San Jose brush rabbit.
Of particular interest on Isla San Jose is the forest of giant cardon cacti, the tallest cactus in the world, as well as more than 80 types of other cactus. The island features a splendid white sandy beach and mangrove lined lagoon.
