Lefkada (Leucas, Leucadia, Lefkas or Leukas), is a Greek island located in the Ionian Sea on Greece's west coast, connected to mainland by long causeway and floating bridge. Lefkada is the principal town of the isle and seat of the municipality. It is situated on Lefkada Island's northern part, 1 hour away (by automobile) from Aktion National Airport. Lefkada Island is part of the regional Lefkada unit. The famous Porto Katsiki beach is located on the west coast of Lefkada Island. The island was attached to mainland Greece. In the 7th century BC the Corinthians dug a trench on its isthmus.
