Magdalena Island (Isla Magdalena) is a small Chilean isle located in the Strait of Magellan. It is located approx 32 km (20 ml) northeast of Punta Arenas, the Magallanes Region's capital. In 1982, Magdalena and nearby Marta Island were declared national monument sites. Magdalena is the breeding location for some species of seabirds, including the Magellanic penguin. The island's penguin colony has been monitored since 1998, with estimated over 63,000 pairs. Currently, Isla Magdalena is uninhabited.
Cruise passengers can walk through Magdalena Island along a walking trail (marked path). It leads to the lighthouse where is displayed an exhibition of photos and information on the marine life in the Magellan Strait. Marta Island shelters cormorants, skuas and sea lions, among others.
The Magdalena Island cruise port map is interactive. It shows the port's exact location, along with the real-time cruise ship traffic (if any) in its vicinity - today, and right now. By zooming-out you can see other cruise ship ports located near Magdalena Island, Chile.
If you lose the Magdalena Island location on the map, simply reload the page (also with F5 button). This feature is integrated with the CruiseMapper's cruise ship tracker tracking the vessels' current positions at sea and in ports.
