Manus Island is the largest of the Admiralty Islands (PNG) and the country's 5th largest with a total area of 2100 km2 (811 ml2) and a population of around 50,000. Lorengau is a major port town and capital of the Manus Province,
- The province is served by the Momote Airport located on the Los Negros Island. Both islands (Manus and Los Negros) are connected by bridge.
- The island is covered in jungles (lowland tropical rainforests). Its highest elevation is Mt Dremsel (718 m / 2356 ft) located on the southern part.
- Manus Island is famous worldwide for its Emerald green snail (aka Manus green tree snail) whose shells are harvested and sold for maining jewelry. The snail shell is colored in the unusual vivid green. Overharvesting of the snails led to decline in their population. Rainforest logging is also becoming a serious threat to the species' survival.
- As part of Australia's Pacific Solution, in 2011 on the island was built a detention centre for asylum-seekers. In April 2016, the PNG's Supreme Court ruled that the asylum seekers detention on the Island was illegal.
