Pulau Moyo Island Indonesia (Mojo, West Nusa Tenggara)

Pulau Moyo Island is located in West Nusa Tenggara province (Sumbawa, Indonesia), off the north coast of Sumbawa Island. Moyo Island has land area approx 349 km2 (135 mi2) and population around 1,000 (distributed in all 6 villages).

The island is mostly uninhabited and all its inhabitants live on farming and fishing. A National park was established in 1986 to protect and conserve the island's extraordinary vegetation and animal species. A Marine Reserve preserves the surrounding unspoiled coral reefs. Island's highest elevation point is 648 m (2126 ft) above sea level.

Most of the island is a nature reserve (called Moyo Island Hunting Park) covering 22538 hectares (55692 acres), and inhabited by wild pigs, wild cattle, macaques, barking deer, birds. There are also several waterfalls inside the Park, the largest is approx 2-hour drive from Labuan Aji village. The other waterfalls are in the forest, within 15 min walking distance from the village.

Pulau Moyo's entire coastline is declared a marine conservation area. Coral reefs and their inhabitants are protected from pollution and fishing. This Indonesian travel destination is perfect for snorkelling and diving. Tourists have the chance to experience an untouched sea paradise as the marine park was founded long before tourism reached the area.
