Ronne is the largest city on the Danish island of Bornholm located in the Baltic Sea. It has a population of 13,580 inhabitants (2015 census). From 1970 until 2002, Ronne was a municipality in its own right, while Bornholm Island was a county. Nearly 12,000 people live in Ronne Parish (as of 2014), which is a narrow piece of land on island's westernmost part, stretching north and southwards comprising around 30% of the area of former municipality.
Due to its natural harbour and strategic Baltic position, Ronne has an intriguing history coming under Swedish and German influence during its development as an important herring fishing port. Nowadays, with its cobbled streets, interesting museums and half-timbered houses, it attracts tourists mainly from Poland, Denmark, Germany and Sweden.
The town of Ronne has several quaint cobbled streets and interesting low-timbered houses. A pair of streets of particular interest are Laksegade and Storegade, which contain a lot of historic houses that were once the trade buildings and homes of noblemen and merchants. Notable landmarks include Bornholm Museum, Defence Museum, Saint Nicolas' Church, Smedegards riding school located in the southern part of town, and the famous lighthouse, built in 1880.
Ronne is linked to the rest part of Denmark and the outside world by ferry service.
