Rovinj is an Adriatic Sea port city in Croatia, with population around 15,000. It is located on Istrian Peninsula's western coast. Rovinj is among Croatia's most popular tourist resort travel destinations and is also a major fishing port.

The city is officially bilingual (its citizens speaking fluent Italian and Croatian). Rovinj (Rovigno) archipelago consists of 22 small islands famous for their scenic coastline beauty and and pristine forests (oak and Alpine pine).

Rovigno was incorporated into Byzantine Empire (395–1453) in 6th century, then was conquered by Francia (Frankish Empire / 481–843). In the period 1283-1797, the town was one of the most important in Istria ruled by Repubblica Veneta (697–1797). During this period the town was fortified (with 2 rows of stone walls. After the fall of Venice, Rovigno was incorporated in the Austrian Empire (1804-1919), but almost all of its population was Italian-speaking. Part of Kingdom of Italy (1918-1947), after WW2 (1939-1945) Rovigno was ceded to Yugoslavia as part of Croatia and the town was renamed to Rovinj.
